Umair Zia (President)

Umair is a visionary strategist with exceptional skills in healing non-performing and under-performing functional and matrix organizational areas through organizational transformation. His focus is on technology policy and management, governance, risk, assurance, and compliance. Umair is a Computer Engineer by profession and completed his BE in Computer and Information Systems from NED University Karachi in 2007. He is also a Junior Associate ship holder from the Institute of Bankers Pakistan, recognised by Chartered Banker Institute UK, and holds numerous international certifications in the field of information technology and information security.

Umair currently holds a senior leadership position at a leading University in New Zealand. He is an educationist at heart and has served as a facilitator, visiting faculty, guest speaker, and on the advisory board of leading educational institutions in Pakistan, UAE, and New Zealand. Umair believes in lifelong learning and is currently pursuing his PhD in Business and Information Systems from Auckland University of Technology (AUT), New Zealand.

Umair has a passion for community service, especially in the area of children’s education. Umair’s community service objectives are

• To promote cultural awareness and understanding between diverse communities in Otago, New Zealand, and facilitate opportunities for cultural exchange and celebration.
• To organize events and activities that showcase the diverse cultures and traditions in Otago and provide opportunities for the wider community to participate.
• To support the settlement and integration of new migrants in Otago by providing information, advice, and support services, regardless of their cultural or ethnic background.
• To collaborate with other community organizations, government agencies, and local businesses to address issues affecting underrepresented communities, such as discrimination, social isolation, and limited access to services.
• To advocate for the rights and interests of all community members, regardless of their cultural or ethnic background, and to promote multiculturalism and diversity in Otago.
• To provide educational and training opportunities to the community, such as language classes, skills development workshops, and intercultural exchange programs.
• To encourage volunteerism and community engagement among community members and to recognize and celebrate the contributions of all individuals to Otago.
• To promote community health and wellbeing by organizing events and activities that encourage physical activity, healthy eating, and mental health awareness, and that are accessible to all community members.
• To raise funds and provide support for charitable causes in Otago and beyond, such as disaster relief efforts, poverty alleviation programs, and healthcare initiatives.
• To foster strong relationships with diverse communities in other parts of New Zealand and around the world and to facilitate cultural exchanges and collaboration.
